Lately,(meaning this past year and a half) I've been getting into more substantial hip-hop music, or just more substantial music in general. A big shout out to all the music sharing communities. Some folks say its wrong but at least for me, they allow me to be exposed to more music that I probably wouldnt have discovered if not so easily downloadable. Its not surprising to me anymore that most of the better music I've been discovering is what's NOT heard on the radio and video on MTV2 (ya'll have realized MTV don't play music anymore) So last night, I decided to pop something "fresh" into my ipod, A Tribe Called Quest's Anthology.
Now I know some might say I'm late on this(very late) but, like many others in my generation, I have been blinded by the gilded bling of today's commercial music. So please, forgive me. Anyhoo, my train ride this morning was exceptional with this album. It was like the soundtrack to my train ride and the view of Brooklyn outside was the video.
So I ask you guys to upload a cd you find to be "substantial" to you. You can use megaupload.com, or yousendit.com to do so. If not just list the album so that I may look it up and give it a listen. -peace

One of my very very first jobs in a recording studio was when TCQ was working.. a long time ago! I was a night person there manning the phones..every now and then in times after I would see Q-tip in the East Village and he always said hi. He was cute one night Chaka Khan was coming in to that studio after he was going to leave and he left me a note to leave with her and told me exactly what to say to her when I gave it to her. He was like a little boy with a crush. Cute! Ali and I had a fight one night when the manager told me not to lets tons of people in and Kadeem Hardison (sp?) arrives with about 20 people and so we had a fight about how many people I could let in. Heck I would have let them all in but the company was pretty nasty about people "not doing what they were told" and the rec people were spying on the studios for costs etc etc.. hey I had to keep my job, sorry but I always did feel bad for that. They were all nice. Ali got me into a club one night when he saw me in line. They were always very nice. Its been a long time tho :) | |
